by-the-numbers melodic rock outing A simple yet effective lick courtesy of Alex Masi leads off "All For You," but it's quickly buried by Joseph Williams' heartfelt vocals. The Good
"In a Blink of an Eye" recalls the sounds of the 80s pop rock era with memorable power chords, emotional vocals, and a tension building bridge section. Masi returns with a killer lead as the song draws to a conclusion. Williams and company break out all of the melodic rock tricks on "Holy;" moving guitars, over-the-top vocals, and a powerful chorus. What good is a melodic rock album with out a tear-jerking ballad? The piano heavy "Save It All for Me" is Vertigo's contribution. It's a good tune, but a little contrived. "Together" kicks the energy level up a bit with power chords and pulsing drums. The chorus has one of those patterns that just stick with you.
The Bad
The progression on "I Wanna Live Forever" is a little plain.
The Verdict
You can't deny the musicianship or addictiveness of Vertigo's latest album 2, but it's really just a by-the-numbers melodic rock outing.
