Brilliant Song. Some of the lyrics are different which gives the song a different feel; and possibly makes it even more moving. This single is worth it because of the semo for the title track.
Oops, I goofed!
THIS is the single with The Drugs Dont Work demo. The review that I just wrote was for the other version of the single available on this site, called The Drugs Dont Work EP. A small misstep on my part. . . Sorry for the confusion!.
One of the best lovesongs of the 90's!
The Drugs Don't Work happens to be an amazing song by the Verve that is one of the very few lovesongs that I happen to like. . The wonderful instrumental backdrop on this track creates a lush atmosphere, which does a lot for the track. . . plus, the lyrics are cool as well. The Verve's CD "Urban Hymns" is probably a better buy than this, but if you already own the album and love it, by all means do pick this up, as the B-Sides here are very good (2 non-album tracks, plus a remix of Bittersweet Symphony). If you're a really big fan of The Drugs Don't Work, however, it might be a better idea for you to pick up a different version of this single, with the original demo version of The Drugs Dont Work. Overall, however, a great song and a great buy. Also be sure to check out a live cover of this song done by Ben Harper on his Live From Mars CD.
