I shall say it ten times ...
Went to his concert in Brisbane and loved the fact that live or recorded, he sounds the same. I have purchased, yes paid for, ten of Loudon's CD's. I guess I'm a true blue fan, so what else is there to say ?.

Theraputic
The title track is good-- wiity, snide, yet not without pahtos, chock full of word play and addressing a topic that and as only Wainwright can. Loudon Wainwright III is a hit or miss experience but when he hits you, it's the knockout punch and you find yourself on your wallet dazed and amazed. They real as everyone has been saying is "Thanksgiving. " Loud grew up in the very exclusive Westchester County; I grew up in the very middle class Burbank, CA but the emotions and tone and subject matter in the song hit home. I may not have lived all of that song but what I haven't lived I can fully feel and that is what art does. The song is so brilliantly written and sung that is it a worthwhile trade off when you get some of the weaker songs. I mean after all who wouldn't mind some costume jewlery if it also came with one DeBeers Amulet?.

This is one terrific album

Some are cynical, some mean and sarcastic, many almost painfully revealing, and all of them are just plain great: funny, clever and ruthlessly honest. This album is one of Wainwright's very best - all of the songs are winners, although for different reasons. Wainwright writes intensely personal songs, and still they reflect universal experiences. Everyone has bought that "Bill of Goods" sometime in their lives, "Your Father's Car" is advice that everyone wishes they had known when they were twenty years old, and nothing captures the holiday spirit quite as well as "Thanksgiving. " You will not be sorry you bought this CD.

good but not his best
I love Loudon & have all his albums, so I would recommend this to anybody, but I don't think it's his best. I just wanted to add my 2 cents. If you're a fan, you need this, because it's bound to have at least a few songs that will rank as favorites, & it's well-produced. Good but not great IMO. I'm not here to bust a good album, but I wanted to give a little balance to the other rave reviews here. If you're new, I for one would recommend History, Last Man on Earth, Career Moves, or the 1986 Best of.

Probably His Best Album
At least, I've probably listened to it more than I have any of his other albums. I have almost every one of Wainwright's albums, and I would have to say that "Therapy" is arguably his best. Over the years, it never tires. I've probably listened to it 80 or 90 or 100 times. Not too shabby, considering its price. Highly recommended.
