I love this album John Gets Better With Age. Oh my god his song "New York City Girl" is just stellar and his unplugged spin on his #1 hit "Missing You" was a treat I have seen him live several times he's amazing and electric on stage. He's just keeps getting better with age and by the way I am 30 and I have been a fan Of John Waite since "Missing You" and This album blew me away. And I had to privilege to have to spoken to him on the phone twice. (through my connections. ) He's a true Gentleman. You will not regret buying this CD its just stunning.
Waite and See The "The Hard Way" is a bit more mellow. I have known about John Waite through the group Bad English. This is a good singer-songwriter kind of album. There's some rock songs like "The Hard Way" and "Godhead" which are good, but the harder songs on this album are not the best songs in my opinion. Seeing John Waite live he did a rendition of a Bob Dylan tune called "Girl From The North Country" which I wasn't big on, but I have to admit that he sang that song beautifully. Listening to songs like"Masterpiece Of Loneliness" and "New York City Girl" made me realize that John Waite has very good lyrics that has imagery that carries over beautiful melodies. I initially bought this album because of John Waite's singing, and was captured instead by his musicianship more than anything. Not to mention that their is a bonus track of his famous song "Missing You" done acoustically which was nice. For me though by the time the c. d reached the end I did not need to hear "Missing You" cause his new songs are great and have a different vibe which stand on their own. .
Good new songs but.... I've see him in concert when ever he is nearby in Jersey. Look, I love John waite. I went to see him at Great Adventure in the pouring rain when there were only FIVE people there, and when he toured with Journey. I love his music.
But this album is a dissapointment. Not the music mind you, the album. The new/cover/remake songs are great, wonderful, can't say enough about them. But what's up with the 5 songs from Figure in a Landscape?!!? I don't get it. There is absolutely no need for these songs here. Those that are going to buy this album, I am sure, already own Landscape.
I would have prefered John stay in the studio, even if it took another year or so, and produce a FULL album of all new songs. Or at the very least, release the new songs on a small album at a lesser price. .
Very good. It sets a mood and it keeps you there. This album is great. You can hear John has lived his life, its not just beautiful words. If you don't know John Waite's music, get this one and you'll be hooked forever.
A Treat For John Waite Fans! John's voice has never sounded better or more sincere than it does on NYC Girl, the guitar work on Godhead is great and, if you like anything from this genre, this is for you. I don't know what to say about this album (CD) except, it's great. I can't remeber the last time I heard an album that was so good and complete from start to finish as this one. Why the record company isn't pushing this one harder is beyond me. It has at least two radio worthy singles if not more. PLEASE do yourself a favor and give this a listen, you won't be sorry!.
