Love this album This is just as good. Got into this one after "saturday night". ol '55 was later covered by the eagles(also on the asylum record label at the time). there's not a bad track on the album. buy it.
Easily one of his BEST!! Early Tom is smooth as silk...
Believe it or not I had never even heard of Tom Waits until 1995 and I'm now 37!! Hard to believe someone never heard of dear Tom! Closing Time was one of my first attempts at Tom's music. . and easily one of my favorites. He has the touching and wistful "Martha" along with my favorite, Grapefruit Moon, which I could listen to forever. I much prefer Tom's earlier music. . . he actually sings more instead of grovels on. . . either talking or attempting to grovel on and sing. That groveling, although it's signature Tom, can be really grating and depressing if you're noting in the right mood for it. The songs on Closing Time are a brilliant start from Tom who has gone on to make many more of my favorites, particularly "Songbird" while, although not on "Closing Time", is just beautifully relaxing straight music with no lyrics at all. Tom is that talented where he can pull off a song with just music!! It says alot about him as an artist. If you're interested in starting a "Tom" collection this would be a wonderful first buy!.
Great music form a great songwriter!
My wife and I chose "Little Trip to Heaven" as our wedding song. Closing Time is a timeless classic that evokes thoughts, feelings, and memories everytime I hear it. Great songs last forever.
My favorite cd period!
Tom Waits will one day be known as "one of the greatest song writers ever"! Just remember you heard it hear. Can't believe any of you fools could give this album anything but a 5 star rating. Once you hear this cd you will find appreciation for the man and the artist he is. I would then continue to follow his career from there and learn what so many of us already know. If you have been looking to be moved by new music in your life, you came to the right place! .
Still my favorite album of all time
I keep playing this until it falls apart or I lose it or break it. This will be the fourth time I buy this album. This turned me on to Waits's genius!.
