the walkmen deconstruct stuff - give them a chance anyway
Just kidding. If New York is a scene again, then the Walkmen are the Television to the Strokes' VU. Well, sort of. The Walkmen are musically sound. Their diverse bag of influences seems to stem from the same record collection the Strokes had (aka VU, Stooges, Television, Pixies) but throw in a little Radiohead, possibly U2 and more of a leaning to 80s pop than 70s raw. But there are definitely twists to keep it interesting. And while we're talking about influences - who cares if a band is derivative? Hey, we're all Post Modernists here, right? There is no originality in rock (there is innovation). Everybody takes what the last guy did and tries to make it better. The Walkmen, like the Strokes, succeed where many, many others fail.

super hott
It hasn't left the cd player yet. just got this from my mom for Christmas.

A Great Ep
It's excellent, the first two tracks are my favorites but all four have something to offer. Just got this one from my mom for Christmas.

innovative sound that still rocks
I listened to this CD and the LP they've released which has three other tracks in Other Music in Soho and felt that it would criminal not to buy such innovative and enjoyable music. Walkmen are part of a growing number of of bands in New York City that are taking the Velvet Underground sound, but then going a step further. I definitely recommend this to anyone who considers themselves a fan of progressive pop/rock.

A Fantastic New Band
Their music combines an obvious appreciation of simple melody with a penchant for fancy musical effects to produce four amazingly complex yet accessible songs. I saw The Walkmen play at Brownies in New York a few months ago and was blown away. Hands down the best new rock band around. I highly recommend this record.
