Customer Reviews Why? In fact, I do believe he and John Williams often have tea with Zeus on Mount Olympus beacuse they are GODS. Jerry Goldsmith is an absolute geinus. But, the fact that CONGO's score works well in the film does not excuse the fact that the soundtrack release is an abomination. Don't get me wrong, I love the music Goldsmith has provided for this flop. It is bold and grand, including some of my favorite Goldsmith melodies. I have many times watched this film in order to bathe in Goldsmith's magestic African themes, but I will never allow this soundtrack to infect my CD player. The tax on my soul would be much too high. The cues are terrible, the recording is a joke, and to top it all off, the tracks are intentionally listed in random order on the CD's jacket. Why? If you buy this soundtrack, you need to see a psychologist because you obviously enjoy inflicting pain upon yourself. Another African Trip For Goldsmith Once again, Goldsmith created one of his best main titles for this film with 'Spirit Of Africa', this time he is joined by Lebo M, the same African artist who contributed with his magical chants on the soundtrack for "The Lion King". In spite of the fact that "Congo" is one of the worst movies I have ever seen, Jerry Goldsmith has managed to create another score that is better than the movie itself. As with "The Ghost And The Darkness", Goldsmith fancies African rhythms that fit perfectly to the soul of the movie, if it ever had one. The action music is fantastic, especially 'Bail Out', 'Hipo Attack', and 'Amy's Nightmare'. It's too bad that this good piece of music was written for a terrible movie. However, Jerry Goldsmith knows how to make his music stand on its own. Beautiful Music I love the combination lush string music and the intoxicating drum beat. This CD is just terrific. I've played it so often my cats are ready to leave home. The melody of Spirit of Africa runs through my head while I go about my day and as soon as I get home I turn on the stereo to hear this wonderful music again. Wish it had been longer, which is how I felt when the movie ended. .
