War with more good music!
So if you are a War fan as I have been over the years this is a cd to add to your collection. War are one of the most musically creative band of all time this cd is one of their best, over the years they have improved with their funk and jazz combination. It is easy to be critical of bands, but this band has proven over the years their ability to be one of the best. .

Platinum Jazz alone is worth it!!!
When I heard War getting down on Platinum Jazz, I couldn't get enough of it. I don't know what that Olof guy is talking about, but apperantly he don't know what this music is about or he don't understand it. I think Platinum Jazz is one of the funkiest jazz instrumentals of that era and anybody that understands it will love it. .

a Platinum snooze
War offer up a double lp (the first since 1973's live lp), One of new studio material. Here we find Jerry and the gang trying to seize the momentum of the mega-selling lp's "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and "The Greatest Hits". The other of older edited musicals reissued as "Platinum Jazz".

At first glance Platinum Jazz looks to be an extention of their Greatest Hits lp. Nothing could be further from the truth. While War do try to satisfy the old guard with the edited down hack jobs of sides 3 & 4. The newer material clearly shows War ready to take the plunge ala Brick's Dazz-disco/jazz.

War Is Coming and River Niger are worthy listens. Unfortunately, the same can't be said about the rest of this 1977 release. The title track is dull and predictable cafe yawn. While the single L. A. Sunshine begs you to turn it off after one minute just to avoid the monotony of it all. War are clearly out of their element here.

The born again attitude about getting high off sunshine fails to impress. Platinum Jazz finds War quite disengaged with the past (evident by trimming two minutes off Nappy Head) and looking towards an uncertain future.

Superb Album by the Masters of the Game
Gumbo of Jazz, Funk, and soul in the way that only this Band could it. Yes, When they say it is platinum, that is what it is. If you like War's music, get this one before it is too late.
