Customer Reviews The last hurrah Some of its pretty funny too (5 Shows a Day, Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous). "Riveresque", the last album from Weddings Parties Anything, is probably their most complete work displaying a maturity, worldliness and compassion not evident in much modern music (the lead singer Mick Thomas has released a couple of cracking solo albums). "Riveresque" is a letter of love to Walhalla, the Mallee, Devonport, Broome, Gippsland and all the place in between. Walkerville, For a Short Time and A Decent Cup of Coffee and Sound of A Train are amongst Mick Thomas's best lyrics, there's a real Carveresque edge to these tales of lost love and chances in regional Australia, and they're not afraid to laugh at themselves (Luckiest Man in the Country). The Afternoon Sun is an exquisite rendering/interpretation of a C. P. Cavafy poem - you don't need to know that to appreciate it but it is a pointer to one of Thomas's favourite authors, Lawrence Durrell. From the plaintive opening of "Don't Need Much" to the wailing guitair conclusion to "Walkerville", Riveresque is one of the finest Australian records of the last decade. Do yourself a favour.
Christmas isn't the same anymore - how about a reunion The greatest hits double CD is brilliant. I listen to it all the time. You can not get tired of this music. It takes me back to Central Club, Melbourne everytime I listen. It's true, they were better live - get this CD of their last live show. I find it hard to list my WPA favorites - but lets try - they are all on these 2 CD's. Industrial town, Step in Step Out, Sargeant Small, Grey Skies over Collingwood, Rosey and Grey, Decent Cup of Coffee, Sun in my Eyes. . . . . I should just go ahead and list them all - you get the picture.
