The Green Album
Where is the emotion? Where is that sound? It's the beginning of the descent into mainstream pop predictability. Oh how Weezer-fans hate the Green Album. . . . Maladroit. . . Make Believe. . . Raditude. The Green Album disgusts them. How safe and easy it all sounds! Did they forget that The Blue Album and Pinkerton were hated when they were first released? Did they forget that the Blue Album were called these same words, and that Pinkerton was dismissed as a lame attempt at the Blue Album? Did they forget that Rivers Cuomo had been gone for six years, and when he came back, when he realized that the fans loved him, his torture was all gone, and a man he was! So, maybe, after Pinkerton, Rivers will never be able to write songs as emotional as those found in Pinkerton, but honestly, with the goodness of your very soul, who would want him to? Who would want him to suffer that sort of pain and torture again? This is a different man writing different songs, and the inspiration is entirely different. You can't be angry at that. There will never be another Blue Album or Pinkerton. Those albums stand alone as a pinnacle of the 90's. Let the 2000s begin, and a new Weezer be born, and we'll judge the future albums on their individual worth alone. So then, what is the Green Album? It's a perfect pop-punk album, one of the best ever made, let's be honest. It's everything that Sum 41 and Blink 182 were doing, only way way better. There's not a weak song on this album. "Photograph" and "Island in the Sun" are astonishing. If the heavy guitars were stripped, what you have here is an album as solid as a Beach Boys or Beatles album, yes I've said it, and safe and predictable as it all sounds, it's no less safe or predictable than an album they would have made. Who is to say straight-forward pop is not to be safe and predictable? Are we so caught up in the alternative that a song has to sound and be completely different or a mating between two different sounds to have any value at all? No! Of course not! Let the Green Album be what it is, and do what it does well. "Don't Let Go" "Simple Pages" even "O Girlfriend". These are solid, sweet pop songs. Let your critic and Nirvana-tinged idiosyncratic minds be subdued, bring out the child in you, and sing as you would sing "California Girls" or "I Wanna Hold Your Hand". Then play "Photograph" and try not to be moved. Pop does live on.

Taking out the soul
. This decent, short collection of post-Pinkerton Weezer assimilates their pop-rock emotionalism nicely, but there is a reason people say this group's first two discs are their only truly wonderful work- because it is true.

green greatness
WEEZER IS SO GOOD THEY ARE AMAZING!. whatever you label this album as, it is great! i love the sounds of weezer even if its not a creative masterpeice! cant everyone just put their little critical minds to rest and just enjoy the wave of flowing good music.

easy
It wasn't cleverly crafted with masterful solos, soaring vocals and crazy instrumentation-no. This album is easy listening. Weezer made ten easy songs that would all fit in a concert and catch in your ear when you turn on the radio. Simple was the way to go, and they did it well. Who needs star studded picking when you can turn three chords into an unforgettable song? Tell me, are you frustrated when you hear "Hashpipe" or "Island In The Sun" on the radio? I'm not. I sing along.

As far as post Matt Sharp Weezer goes..
But seriously, The Blue Album and Pinkerton are all you need of Weezer. I am not a Post- Matt Sharp Weezer fan, but this is and Make Believe are the least sucking out of the late Weezer albums. If you crave more Weezer- esque material I suggest you turn to The Rentals, that dog. , and Fairview (if you can even find them on here anymore, I haven't really kept up but their first CD is really good). All of those bands are not as good as old Weezer, but better than anything Green album on.
