Ricky Hirsch and Jimmy Hall Rockin' in L.A. Jelly-Jelly which is a twist on Macon Hambone Blues (from the Drippin' Wet LP), features Ricky Hirsch blistering that Les Paul and Jimmy Hall's barely-legal verbiage. Yup, this album (CD) rocks, but it is the blues that stands out here. I know a few chicks that took their panties off and willfully handed them over after hearing that song. And then Lucy Was In Trouble seals the deal with Jimmy and Ricky blending (vs. trading) licks with that sax and guitar. Both songs - very much the blues - ROCK! But to be fair, all the songs on the CD are great, while any one is worth the price of a standard CD. This price is a "collector's ransom" which, at the time of purchase, I was happy to pay. However, as great as this CD is, I gotta tell ya: Save some bucks and get it at iTunes for about one-fifth the price. Drippin' Wet too!.
"Left Coast Live" is a classic -- the other live album they did --"Drippin' Wet" (recorded about 1970) is also a classic -- in fact, I like "Drippin'" better than "Left Coast Live" I listen to either one of them and I'm a kid in my 20's again -- They are one of the best live acts I have ever seen -- they always used to put on a helluva show. "Left Coast Live" is good stuff. Buy it.
