A fitting last album. I'm not sure if this album showed them that it was time to hang it up, or if they already knew it was time to hang it up and this album is a byproduct of those feelings. Whiskeytown created 2 great albums and then issued this mildly good but ultimately mediocre and forgettable one. In any case, this album is not up to par with their first two albums by a long shot and if this were the first album I heard by them I never would have gotten into them. This album plays like the album of a band under contract to make another album but may not have if they were not obligated to do so.
This is an album for the diehards only. I have it in my collection because I am a big fan of Ryan Adams and Whiskeytown so I have all their albums by default; this one just sits idly in iTunes and doesn't see regular rotation except the occasional playing to make sure that I still don't care for it very much.
I'm just trying to be objective here so I hope I don't get crucified by fellow fans for not giving 4 or 5 stars to every single album associated with Mr. Adams. Again I'm a huge fan but this is not the finest hour of Whiskeytown or Mr. Adams.
Wonderful bedtime music
These songs are so gentle, and it's hard to believe Ryan Adams was like, what, 24 when he put this album out?. This is definitely my favorite CD to listen to when going to bed, and I mean that in a good way.
Whiskeytown-Pneumonia
I have worn out one copy and purchased this as a second. This is an incredible CD. Ryan Adams once again proves his talents as a musician. .
drunk on whiskeytown
5 stars types. kids, you fence-sitting 4-4. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . are YOU MAD? this recording is brilliant.
errrr, ummm. . . . . have you heard THE JAYHAWKS, Rainy Day Music??? well, this recording is up there with those guys.
see, the problem with people to spend more than 5 mins writing a review is that!!!! they have more than 5 mins to waste - ie: not constructive creating their own wonders. Whiskeytown, this is the record I play my wife. this is love!!!.
Consistently excellent
It's a great song. I am taking the time to write this review for two reasons:
1) I must disagree with the Amazon reviewer who said that "Sit & Listen to the Rain" is unexciting. Though artist comparisons are almost always bunk, this song makes me think of Kurt Cobain and what he might have done. Anyway, a very good song IMHO.
2) I own six Ryan Adams albums (Whiskeytown, The Cardinals, and Solo) and this is my favorite. 11 out of 14 tracks are great, and the other three ain't bad. My opinion of course, but I say buy this album without hesitation.
