Breakthrough With "Pride" I believe that they're much more than just that. White Lion, is a band that is somewhat overlooked as just another 80's glam rock band. Mike Tramp has a voice that may need some getting used too as it is more soft spoken and sweet than rough and tough, but combined with Guitarist: Vito Bratta's heavily influenced on Eddie Van Halen Guitar Playing, there's a pretty good balance of Good Hard Rock mixed with A Hint Of Good Hearted Pop Music.
Pride is a good album, but maybe needed a couple more hard hitters (in my opinion) to make it essential.
The Album begins with The Hard-Hitting Riffs Of "Hungry", which has a riff that just grabs you and takes you for the ride of the song, with a solo that to me is mind-blowing and in your face.
Lonely Nights is a good follow up, even though it slows down the pace with a mid-paced tempo.
The Album continues in this tradition of good pop/rock, with The Singles "Wait" and "Tell Me".
Overall, A Good Album, that could've been followed by something better had they found the patience and time.
This was my first rock LP circa 1990-1991
I Did'nt remember the exact date. . . I was on sixth grade at Jose Max Leon High School in Bogotá, Colombia. It was December. . . . but few months after I was listening 88. 9 an FM rock Radio. . . they had a little program called "mini encuentro" and the man behinde the microphone said: "today with White Lion. . . ". . . and instanly sounds: Wait, When the Children Cry and Here I Go Again (actually this is not a White Lion song. . . you know). . . I recorded these songs on a compact cassette and was my rock battle for months. . . . finally I complete the money and went to a record store and bought!!!. . . .
Now I have this Lp with others loved big black discs. . . It's still the favourite of my son Felipe. . . he loves this big white lion with no shades. . . .
Few days later, I finally have this on CD. . . and this is the first time that I can listen the bass sounds better than on my old LP. . . . James Lomenzo is a great bass player. . . .
I'm so so happy. . this is not my first Cd, but really one of my personal Billboard. . .
Thanks Amazon. . .
In Colombia I can't find this CD for several years. . . . (when it was on the record store, i remember that it was so expensive).
Great debut CD by these guys!!
But like most of my hair metal CD's, traded it in when I lost the 80's mullet. Had this CD when it first came out back in the day. Although I am not a huge White Lion fan, this CD was one I definitely had to have as I try to reacquire some of the past gems I had gotten rid of. Vito's guitar work is amazing! Mike's voice, although not my favourite by any means, is also pretty spot on. The rest of the band pull their weight too.
All and all, not a bad debut! Worth a listen or two!!! .
Vito Bratta Rules!!!
However, if you are a guitar player, or a fan of guitar in particular, then this is a must have for the incredibly melodic playing of Vito Bratta, that has not been equaled since. If you are a fan of music from this genre, then it gets 3-4 stars for some VERY good songs, but the entire album is not all that strong song-wise. It is a great loss that this guy does not continue to make music, because unlike Mike Tramp, his voice on the guitar was unique and without equal. Get this and all other White Lion that Vito played on. (which would include all but the most recent release) His guitar is well worth hearing.
Sound quality sucks
They seriously ought to think about a re-master! . I love the tunes on this CD but I've wondered for years why the sound is awful.
