Great Early Work
The tracks on the album still sound good even though they range from 1978's "Trouble" to 1982's "Sinners". It is great to have a collection of Whitesnake's late 1970's and early 80's classics. This collection all come from the period before the band broke in the USA, presumably this is the reason fro the Union Flag cover! There isn't a duff track on the album, which includes the original version of "Here I Go Again".

Bluesy snakes
His manner of singing even the hairy 80's tunes is blues-based and the man emphasizes that by compiling himself a compilation that is presenting the blues-Whitesnake era.
It is good that David Coverdale apparently still belongs to where he came from. I wonder what was the reaction of certain Misters Moody and Marsden? Anyway it is a good compilation showing that despite 3 years in Deep Purple and presence of 3 ex-members in 'Snake early lineup the band had something own to put on the map. That is true, of course, only ignoring the fact of presence of some Led Zeppelin called band. Still the songs are good and show the band with a potential that still was boiling to later explode .

Whitesnake
Finally there is a compilation with all of Whitesnakes "real" hits. This is a good album. The only thing missing from this collection would be Come and Get It. Then it would be complete. Otherwise this is probably one of the best ones ever. Just take off Here I Go Again (because both versions sucked) and then your set!.

Good collection of early material
"Greatest Hits" focused almost solely on the group's latter-day MTV-styled pop metal, ignoring the fact that Whitesnake used to be a really tough little blues-rock combo. Well, it's nice to see that Whitesnake's pre-poodle days aren't being completely ignored.
Sure, the "Silver Anniversary Collection" drew from the late-70s/early 80s material as well, but this CD is nevetheless a nice addition to the Whitesnake catalogue, making it possible for those who just went out and bought "Greatest Hits" to get some of the group's best early stuff as well without having to buy "Is This Love" and "Still Of The Night" again.

The many highlights here include "Ain't No Love In The Heart Of The City", the original "Here I Go Again", "Sweet Talker", the tough grind of "Love Hunter", and one of the group's best songs, the excellent "Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues".
The track selection isn't quite perfect, and the serious fan already has Whitesnake's original albums, of course, but if you only know of them in their mid-to-late-eighties hair metal guise, check out this collection as well.

Shame on you Mr. Coverdale!
Isn't there any unreleased or live stuff you can issue for the die hards! How about a live album with John Sykes! The only reason I would buy this if the sound was remastered and it was less than $14. Another greatest hits album?! We already have all these songs. 00. $18. 99 ouch - it should come with Tawny Kitean for that price!! Maybe someone could tell me that's heard it how it sounds. At least I'll feel better if I knew it was remastered.
