1967 THE WHO record remastered on CD. In any case, this was an interesting venture for The Who, and could be called a concept album of sorts. The sound quality is improved from the vinyl disc, which sounded crappy and distorted. The record contains a fictional radio broadcast, complete with jingles, from pimple cream to Coca-Cola, with songs by The Who cut into the broadcast, a clever idea, with some good songs as well, the extra tracks are some of the best songs on the record. Even in the early days, The Who, might have been ahead of their rivals, like The Stones and The Beatles creatively speaking, even though The Beatles were more successful at selling records.
My favorite Who record
There is quite an eclectic assortment of songs here, and it may strike most listeners as "unconventional". This is probably my personal favorite Who record. The hilarious faux-commercials are especially odd. Rael is the best song here, and it's interesting to hear echoes of Rael in the Sparks track from Tommy.
However, I recommend getting the deluxe edition of Sell Out for the bonus tracks and additional commercials rather than getting this version.
Ivan Rorick.
My Favorite Who
This is a wonderful album. I like to keep my reviews short and simple. In fact, its my favorite Who album. And that's saying alot considering their brilliant discography. I'll end this review with with some classic lyrics.
Excerpt from 'Tattoo'
"My dad beat me 'cause mine said "Mother"
But my mother naturally liked it and beat my brother
'Cause his tattoo was of a lady in the nude
And my mother thought that was extremely rude"
I love that line!

Classic Who
LOVED it. First time I've heard this album. I have just come back from seeing the Who in concert. Have always loved 'Who's Next and Tommy etc. Did not know much about their earlier stuff. This album to me shows Townshends love of the 'concept album'. Great songs and great sense of humour. This album also has a touch of early Pink Floyd about it circa Syd Barrett(which I also love). Must have been a great era.
Bonus Tracks are NOT filler
The Who`s concept album of sorts, "Sell Out" takes the best of Mod a-go-go dance rock and marries it to the heavier psychedelic (backwards guitar, feedback and distortion) sound which was becoming increasingly popular in 1967. Before "Progressive Rock" there was Pop music and Pop art. The result is sheer delight to Who fans and rock aficionados in general. In doing so The Who take a light handed, tongue in cheek, approach and never lose their sense of humor. Probably one of The Who's more underrated efforts (Sell Out was recorded and released a while before the Who achieved international fame and produced the heavy themed concept albums "Tommy" and "Quadrophenia") and unlike those later efforts plays more like a string of gold nuggets interlaced with some clever AM radio jingles. If you like well crafted rock and roll songs complete with great harmonies, hooks and Pete Townsend feedback this is for you. One last note - Why did MCA, who distribute The Who's catalog of music - wait until the mid 90's to include the extra tracks? In my opinion the bonus cuts sound like they always belong to this album and are well worth upgrading the old CD from the 80s (like I did) or being pleasantly surprised if you're not familiar with this release to begin with!.
