Best version of (Love is like a) Heatwave imo
The album everyone is familiar with but the added cover is a real treat it is much more organic than the version that they released on "a quick one". just stunning vocals, guitars and drums.

The Who - MODs --NOT Punks!!!
com description of this album was written by someone who was not there. Obviously the Amazon. Anyone who knows about The Who and the time and place knows that the MODs were not, strictly speaking, punks, while the Rockers were. There was an ongoing rivalry between the two groups that eventually included the spin out groups who created Punk, such as Johnny Rotten. But, the Who were NOT punk.

The final word in mono vinyl
Note that among the records sold earlier was an 80s reissue of the 70s two-fer "My Generation" and "Magic Bus", both of which suffered from "electronic stereo" mixes of some songs, and slap-dash haphazard true stereo mixes of others. After selling some old found vinyl and making a suprisingly large profit, I decided to plonk down the considerable dosh for this meticulously assembled reissue. Well, I got my money's worth and more.

This gorgeous version of one of the 60s greatest and most underrated documents sounds as if you're in the studio watching it all go down on three-track tape. The heavy duty 200 gram vinyl has been adorned with a perfect mock-up of the 60s UK Brunswick label and jacketed in extremely sturdy flipback cardboard with the usual track listing sticker. Had these been the only improvements, it would still be worth the asking price. But the sound. . .

If you're reading this review, I'd surmise that you're well acquainted with the content within, but I guarantee you've never heard it like this. It was like hearing the album again for the first time. Why anyone bothered to butcher this classic with a stereo mix, electronic or otherwise, is beyond me. Aside from Pink Floyd's "The Piper At The Gates At Dawn" or the Beatles "White Album", I don't think I've ever heard music so vividly portrayed in a single track mix - and my stereo system is a little bookshelf model I bought in the 80s. I can barely fathom what this would sound like on an audiophile rig. Whether it was Shel Talmy, Glyn Johns, Gus Dudgeon or some kind of combination that assembled the mono master tape, they really got it right the first time. This was music designed to come at you like a train speeding down a track, and is the closest we'll ever get to experiencing The Who's full-on assault in the heady days of the Railway Arms or the Marquee. The transfer to vinyl using the Quiex system also seems to have taken most surface noise out of the picture.

This reissue has turned an extraordinarily powerful debut into a stunner of the highest order, and if, like me, this is the fourth or fifth issue of this album you're buying, believe me, this one lives up to the hype. .

Early Stuff Worth Owning
There is the mix of covers, including James Brown's "Please Please Please", which showcases a juvenile Daltry trying his best James imitation, as well as some classic Who. This disk showcases the Who as England's new pop stars. Singles include "Legal Matter", which is a brilliant showcase of Nicky Hopkin's piano against Pete's vocals and a catchy guitar lick, the masterpiece "My Generation", and the lovely Mod anthem "The Kids are Alright". "The Ox" is another John tune, an instrumental which also highlight's Nicky's keys. "The Good's Gone" and "It's Not True" are very much period pieces that have the feel and orchestration of the typical mid 60s English pop tune. Worth owning this piece of history, I just wished the recording was a bit clearer.

The Who, a Rapid Surge of Adrenaline

My Generation, that one song itself is one of, if not the best example of The Whos highly charged loud, fast, rebellious music. I chose this CD as my 300th review for many reasons.

Keith Moons drums pulsate and punctuate the lyrics and rhythm. When listening to My Generation, my pulse fluctuates to the beat, the adrenaline rush runs through my veins and summons my feet to dance.

Keith Moon has been dead thirty years this September. The last big bam in rock. Keith Moon, a. k. a. Moon the Loon remains the epitome of rock bad boys. Leaving a generation in mourning, yet hasn't ceased influencing future drummers.

Time has been good to this CD. It's still up there with the best of rock. A celebration of freedom, youth and their generation.
