Southern Gothic
Having first bought "Nine High A Pallet" a few years ago I was a tad skeptic. I can single-handedly thank WSP for introducing me to the music of Vic Chesnutt. After a few listens it all made sense and I went on to purchase further albums in the Vic catalog.

This new offering is no exception. Unlike it's predecessor, "Cobalt" has the whole band backing Chesnutt which pushes the envelope even further.

Chesnutt and Panic,Who Could Ask For More!
All i can say is that it's one of the best piece's of music i've ever heard! You've got everything here, hard rock, blues, country, folk. It's hard to find the words to express how i feel about this cd. Every song stands out!No Thanks and Expiration Day are the two best tracks. Vic Chesnutts vocals are outstanding, backed by Widespread Panic, this cd can do no wrong!A must for any music lover looking for a blend of great sound!.

WSP and the Vic Chesnutt Mystique

It's funny people expecting to hear a Panic show when they listen. mys·tique
Pronunciation: mi-'stEk
Function: noun
Etymology: French, from mystique, adjective, mystic, from Latin mysticus
Date: 1891
1 : an air or attitude of mystery and reverence developing around something or someone. Crazy thing is, they are getting the boys, just behind the scenes and having a great time. Brute is a collaborative cd with one of Widespread Panics favorite writers, Vic Chesnutt. Here's a list of songs sung by Widspread Panic as the band and written by Vic. . . Pretty impressive huh?
Aunt Avis
Adirondacks
Blight (David Schools/Michael Houser/Todd Nance/Vic Chesnutt)
Expiration Day
Let's Get Down To Business
Morally Challenged
My Last Act
Protein Drink
Puppy Sleeps
Scholarship
Sewing Machine
Sleeping Man

Just hang on and listen a few more times, then wait for the boys to whip out a Protein Drink>Sewing Machine on ya this summer, whoooa boy. Then you'll know exactly why you spent your hard earned clams on this album. Panic loves Vic and so should you.

Co-Balt
However, it is a very good (maybe not great) cd worth having, especially if you are a WSP or Chesnutt fan. If you come into this expecting a Widespread Panic CD, you'll be disappointed because this isn't Widespread Panic.

Chesnutt's vocals and lyrics are interesting, and, even though I found them strange, instantly likable. Plus, this CD is worth it because the liner booklet has the friendliest picture of JB I've ever seen.

Widespread Panic Fan
I thought that I was getting a WP quality CD, however, I was mistaken. The musicianship by WP is great as usual; the vocals by Vic Chesnutt leave alot to be desired.
