A rough n tumble batch of barroom stompers and ballads - love it
Here, soak in a bluesy, rootsy bar-band taking over the local saloon, tunes altering between roadhouse stomps with telecasters blaring, and smokey, hushed ballads, guitars drenched in reverb. For now, gone are the days of Lucinda's acoustic, folk/country music. Williams almost breathes her words, lazily, almost drunkenly carefree, drawling and infectious. The duet with Elvis Costello on "Jailhouse Tears" is a riot. So much great music she has made. . . . GENRES: Rock, Alt Country, Mellow Rock.

BUY IF YOU LIKE: The Jayhawks, James McMurtry, John Hiatt.
MUST HEAR TRACKS: "Real Love," "If Wishes Were Horses," "Jailhouse Tears," "It's a Long Way to the Top. " .

little anything
Maybe 3 or 4 tracks that were not great but listenable, but most songs sounded like she was forcing yourself, not a glimpse of creativity, just shallowness. Knowing how good she can be it was disappointing to listen to this album. The first track "Real Love" in a way defines the kind of the album Little Honey is. Ok for a dance hall, but not something to listen to and enjoy.

A Lil' Honey
The title track is hot! Elvis Costello fits in well on "Jailhouse Blues". A good listen if you're a Lucinda fan. It's a good addition to my library.

Don't pay attention to bad reviews
A return to form after the sluggish tempo of West. This is actually a great Lucinda Williams album despite the abundance of bad reviews. 8 of the first 9 songs on the album are all gems (I don't care much for Honey Bee). Circles and X's is one of her finest moments. The two guitars at the beginning of the track are just about as good as guitars can get. If Wishes Were Horses is another classic track with choice piano and harmony vocals.

You have to love the production on this album also. The sound is clear and deep with the right combination of tonalities to fill in the mix (example being the two guitars in Circles and X's which each have a very distinct tonality that contrast each other). The last 4 songs are a bit tedious, although Plan to Marry is decent. Buy this album for the first 9 tracks and ignore the bad reviews.

I know what I think I saw and what I thought I'd seen..
I really wanted to like this and I am glad that some people seem to. This is really sad. I think this could be the beginning of the end for Lucinda. I hope not. This recording is one of those that, because of the artist, you anticipate mostly great work - with a not so impressive one here and there. However; there is not one song in the collection that has any merit. Lucinda seems to be grasping, or trying to hard. Kind of like a big time actor that has finally hit bottom and now is a "STRAIGHT TO VIDEO" nothing. Washed up, worn out and quickly forgotten about. One you can't remember why you liked in the first place.

Lucinda is out of touch on this one. You can hear it in her voice. It is as if she knows it is over, but wants to try and slide one more by. It does not work. Her weak, lackluster vocals would have gotten her booted from the Broken Arrow, OK "Rooster Days" talent show. There is no heart, no attitude - it's all gone. She knows it and sings it. You can "feel" the past slippin' away and you're left shocked, in disbelief. This is a case when someone close to her should speak up and stop her before she becomes buffoonish sideshow freak. No one will, they will push and ride the cart for all it is worth. When it is clearly over, Lucinda will be left with absolutely nothing; just as anyone who buys this very sour, hollow mess of phony strained songs? is.

Show is over folks, don't shove on your way out. Tip the bartenders and waitresses; they've worked hard all night. You won't need to tip the band, they are already gone. Hey Chuck, turn the lights off - I'm outta here. Was a horrible night.
