Beautiful Nancy!
This album is classic Nancy from the days when I watched my parents mingle with friends at home in the 60s and 70s. The more I listen, the more it rates 5 star for me but unfortunately can't edit. Her voice is unmistakable, her style is inimitable, and whatever she does is alright with me. As I listen to these selections I'm reminded of cafe society days with the sexy backdrop of Nancy and her cool, jazzy combo--or the out of the way cocktail lounge, but no smoke gets in your eyes here. Good mood music for a quiet, romantic dinner with someone special.

Fantastic Nanci Wilson At Her Very Best
Don't let the glossy album cover fool you; this is not fluffy but poignant and swinging. I have had this album (first on LP and now CD) since it came outin 1969. She has such a subtle, beautiful voice that really comes out with a quartet. Some of the songs are heartbreakingly beautiful: "For Heaven's Sake","Easy Living", and "Darn That Dream". I had just listened to Miles Davis "Birth of the Cool" which has the last song above and then listened to Nancy's version. I almost cried, it was so beautiful. If you own only one Nancy Wilson album, I would say choose this one.

One of Nancy's BEST !
I can't say even in her heyday ('60s) that all her records were great, but this is an absolute MUST if you're a fan of jazz and Nancy's music. This is a rather remarkable album Nancy put out back in the '60s when she was churning them out one after another. Her voice here attains a depth of feeling that was missing from a lot of her prior albums on Capitol. I don't know whether it was the spare arrangement here that brought out her best or she simply sounds better with less orchestration, but she simply NAILS every performance here, it's really remarkable. The spare back-up lets Nancy improvise and flow with her amazing vocals. I often wondered why Capitol put her with so many orchestras such as Billy May or Gerald Wilson, this girl sounds like a jazz singer, not another Doris Day or Patti Page, and you gotta give her room to breathe and improvise like a Billie Holiday or Sarah Vaughan. The songs are well-chosen and again the arrangements are subtle, which brings out an inspired Nancy.

Golden Nancy with a Jazz Quartet - Great, Great ... The Best
It's great Nancy. Hank Jones on piano, Ron Carter on bass, Gene Bertoncini on guitar - wow! wow! wow! - It's very serious. When I first heard her singing "Happiness is Just a Thing Called Joe" I simply wondered why my parents named me Carlos. Buy it now - you deserve it. I've bought some 10 as a gift for my friends. Beyond category.
