One of Bill's Best
It brings back so many memories for me. I really love this CD. In my opinion, this is one of Bill's better releases, although it did not get much air play. If you are in love or like love songs, this is a great buy.

Caribbean Bill...
Powerful, muscular, distinguishable. Bill withers is to me one of the finest voices in soul music. One of those voices that you recognize whatever the song or the rhythm is. Famous for songs like "Ain't no sunshine" (you can find many cover versions of this one), "Lean on me", "Lovely day" (gosh what a performance there!) or "Just the two of us" (on "popa" Grover Washington's album called winelight), Bill Withers has many more songs worth listening to, and you can find some of those on this album.

"Watching you, watching me" was indeed his last studio recording, after which he decided to do other things (in that sense, there is a similarity with Al Green), and it seems it took some time to make this album because you get songs ranging from 1981 to 1985. The line up of musicians is impressive. La creme de la creme was on this album : Larry Carlton, David Foster, Nathan East, Paul Jackson (what a great session musician!), John Robinson, Greg Phillinganes, Paulinho DaCosta, Marcus miller or Ernie Watts are all great, fantastic artists !

What also called my attention is how Caribbean the album is. "Heart in your life", "We could be sweet lovers", "Steppin right along", or even the closer, "Trying to find a love" all have that sort of Jamaican/Virgin Islands rhythm and beat. Maybe the influence of Ralph MacDonald ? Sure, the sound seems a bit outdated today, although you can still hear some of these songs on "smooth jazz" stations. It's been 22 years, and this explains that. I would also have liked to have a couple of tracks more; the cd is only 45 minutes long, but the product was probably one of the last conceived for the LP format, which normally held that total playing time (20+ minutes per side).

In any case, an excellent album, just more sophisticated than earlier materials, some would even say overproduced and L. A. soda pop, but still a nice addendum to your collection. If you would prefer a broader vision of Bill Withers' work, get the LEAN ON ME - the best of Bill Withers. That one has has 18 songs, of which five come from this album. Enjoy the ride !.

WHAT A CLASSIC.
THIS WAS A VERY STRONG FINISH TO SOME OF THE MOST POWERFUL YEARS OF WRITING AND CREATING. UNFORTUNATLY THIS WAS MR WITHERS LAST CD/ALBUM. I HAVE THIS CD AND ALSO THE LP. ON THE LP THE VOICES AND THE MUSIC SOUNDS SO LIFE LIKE,YOU CAN FEEL WHAT HE SINGS ABOUT AND THE PREFORMANCE MUCH,MUCH BETTER. ANYWAY I COULD ONLY RATE THIS 5 STARS BECAUSE I COULDNT GO TO 10. I ONLY HOPE BEFORE MR WITHERS LEAVES US ONE DAY THAT HE RECORDS JUST ONE MORE TIME OR AT LEAST PREFORM WHAT HE HAS DONE. THIS CD IS A CLASS ACT THROUGH AND THROUGH. HIS USED CDS MAY SEEM TO COST A LOT,BUT THIS CD IS OUT OF PRINT AND TO DATE WAS HIS LAST PREFORMANCES. ABOUT 5 TO 10 YEARS FROM NOW YOU MIGHT WISH YOU HAD IT BECAUSE YOU MIGHT BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND ANOTHER ORIGINAL, AND IF HE NEVER PREFORMS AGAIN ,THIS CD/ALBUM WILL BE WORTH A FORTUNE. BUT WHAT EVER THE PRICE WILL BE,HIS MUSIC WILL HAVE TO BE RIPPED FROM MY HANDS BECAUSE TO ME IT IS ALREADY PRICELESS. PS. IF YOU ARE A FAN LOOK FOR HIS DUAL DISC(CD AND DVD). IF YOU THOUGHT YOU KNEW WHO HE WAS,WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE HIS INTERVEIW THE CD/DVD IT IS CALLED JUST AS I AM. (THE BROTHER IS DEEP)HIS LAST INTERVEIW IN OVER 20 OR 30 YEARS. ALSO LOOK FOR (+JUSTMENTS) ANOTHER ONE OF HIS GREAT ALBUMS THAT IS VERY,VERY RARE. .

Oh Yea! This cd is Pure Delight.
Don't be so 70's that you may be unwilling to give this gem a listen. Friends, what a pure delight this cd is,classic Bill Whithers voice accompanied by slick modern musical production. Iam so happy i found this cd that its under lock and key and among the best of my collections.
