Why? Some of it might be considered outlandish, but if the music doesn't appeal to you it doesn't mean it is worse quality than Silent Force, their more well-known album. I'm a big fan of WT's "Mother Earth" era. We can see this evident in trends; popularity doesn't have anything to do with quality.
Sharon and the band carried their style with eccentricity and originality, so much so that when Evanescence first appeared on the American music scene. . . some years after Within Temptain had been rockin' the dutch metal scene, I thought -they- were ripping on Sharon and WT's style visually. At least their singing was watered down and predictable enough not to be comparable to Sharon's originality in the vocal department.
Then, ironically, Within Temptation began sounding eerily like Evanescence. I was disappointed.
Silent Force and the subsequent releases are more pop oriented and aimed at an American fan base. It is a product, designed to be more accessible to the masses in order to generate more record sales.
Excuse the references if they are over done, but I find that Within Temptation's more-accessible albums like The Silent Force and The Heart of Everything lack the creativity and originality once present in their music. If you want music that is very melodic, easy to listen to, and can still somehow be called 'metal' in any way, choke down this angst-ridden copy cat of a copy cat CD.
If you want power and quirky uniqueness with an eco-spin, try for Mother Earth. .
Amy Lee is a chain-smoker
Sharon del Adel makes Amy Lee sound like a 86 year-old chain smoker. Please burn any of your Evanescence CD's you own NOW! and go buy this CD and you will know why I told you to. After buying "The Heart of Everything" a few weeks back, I ordered this disc as it was nowhere to found in my area. Everything about this album is simply amazing and only rivaled by "Vinland Saga" by Leaves' Eyes. . . . of which I own every album they've produced. Please do not give Evanescence any more of your hard earned money and look to Europe for all your Goth metal needs :)

Very operettic though pissed I can't use on computer
I like the music but am not happy that only the mpg plays on the computer and I can't get to any of the songs with my winamp. . If I had known that I would not have bought the CD.
Top band of their time.
With Sharon den Adel's hypnotic voice, you are pulled into the song. Within Temptation is one of the best bands that I have heard in years. The enchanting symphony ignites the hauntingly beautiful vocals.
"Memories," plays across the soul and burns you with the desire to remember and embrace life.
Simply amazing. .
Beautiful and empty.
Now, it's not a bad thing when a band decides to recognize a more mainstream crowd; it's only a bad thing when they go about it in the wrong way- sort of like Within Temptation inevitably did. So, here's the thing: After the release of Enter and Mother Earth, Within Temptation decided to release a more commercially geared album that's completely different from their two previous releases.
Now, this LP has some magnificently composed songs that feature the wonderfully angelic and professionally dynamic vocals of Sharon Den Adel. . . and granted, most people such as myself can pop it into the CD player and listen to the whole thing through, completely hypnotized by its beautiful sound.
Unfortunately though, if you peel back the layers, there isn't much else to be found. Within Temptation has seemed to sacrifice the personality of their songs, that can be heard in their previous releases, for an almost too perfect and beautiful sound and cliché lyrics.
Honestly, the fact that Within Temptation has taken most of the heart out of their songs doesn't bother me too much, considering there is still a beautiful sounding album on hand. . . but I definitely wouldn't suggest this album to you if you are looking for something filled with deep meaning and lyrics that a writer has put their heart, sweat, and soul into.
