Breathtaking The band shows off its ease with a diversity of styles and its excellent musicianship, while still writing gripping lyrics. X, the quintessential American band, really put it all together with this collection of songs. John and Exene's vocal harmonies are the personification of the all the great and horrible possibilities of romantic relationships. As noted previously, the writing and recording of this work was greatly affected by the death of Exene's sister in an automobile accident. If this work stands as a tribute to her, there aren't any greater tributes one can receive. My favorite X album! I have the vinyl album but recently bought the CD and its awesome. Has been for years. . . of course. It included bonus trax and . . . . its X!! Poetic. Intelligent. And they could/can actually PLAY! If Im not mistaken I think these lovely people invented what some call "country-punk". If u havent heard X- theres no better introduction. I was ever so pleased to not only find this cd, but found that it was offered at a lower price, purchased with X~More Fun In The New World. . . ]! . Fantastic - and re-release is even better X delves into a deep range of emotions on this album, and I personally can't get enough. An amazing band's finest hour. Buying it on CD a few years ago was wonderful enough, but these re-releases are absolutely essential. Only one day after hearing it for the first time, I am unable to imagine "Riding With Mary" without the bonus version's fantastic added piano line. Stunning work. "Blue Spark" and "Hungry Like The Wolf" turn up the heat, and their talent shines more than before on songs like "Motel Room In My Bed," "Dancing With Tears In My Eyes" and the addictively melancholy "Come Back To Me.
