Besta Polka Youbetcha He'd just released an album of duets with fellow accordionists and folks influenced by his style and four of this disc's eight tracks come from that release. Released as an in-store special for Sam Goody and Musicland stores (I got my copy at the Staten Island Mall for a whopping 99 cents back in the day), this party-starter of a polka disc is as much a tribute to the king of Cleveland Style, Frankie Yankovic.
There's not a bum track in the lot! "Weird Al" Yankovic and band polkacize Queen with "Bohemian Polka", Jimmy Sturr takes on Smokie's "Living Next Door to Alice" (cleaning up British fans' chants accompanying the original), and Frank meets with Eddie Blazonczyk ("In Heaven There Is No Beer"), Weird Al ("Whole Stole the Keeshka"), and norteno legend Little Joe Hernandez ("Just Because Polka").
A bit of indie cred comes from Brave Combo's "Flying Saucer".
Far too short, this comp of "happy snappy" tunes is sure to liven up any gathering, and belongs in any self-respecting polka hall's jukebox.
