Yo La Tengo Band: Yo La Tengo
Title: You Can Have It All
Rating:
Release Date: 2000-08-08
Media: Audio CD

Tracks: 1: You Can Have It All 2: Ready-Mades 3: You Can Have It All [Remix]

A great a-side and an intriguing b-side.

The title track is a great pop piece, featuring a bouncing backing vocal, a chugging rhythm and a fantastic cello counter to Georgia Hubley's lead vocal. Taken from the And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out album, the single for "You Can Have It All" features two mixes of the title track with a cover of the Bonzo Dog Band's "Ready-Mades". It's remix is something I could live without-- it adds extra layers of drumbeats and pulls Hubley's vocal straight out in front-- I'm happier with the original mix on this one. "Ready-Mades" is a fairly unusual performance, gentle vocals and swelling horns provide for an intriguing mix on the piece-- it's not indespensable, but it's awfully good.

Still, there's not enough on here to make it worth tracking down by all but the biggest diehard of the band.

Spagetti Jesus
For those of you who don't know the wonders of the UCB, this is a picture of Colby (played by Amy Poehler) during the Spagetti Jesus (Spirituality Expo) episode. I have to admit, I bought this single not because I'm a fan of Yo la Tengo, but because I'm a huge fan of the Upright Citizen's Brigade. When I found this cd (at Borders, no less) I started laughing hysterically, & it's safe to say it made my week. After listening to it a few times, I'm not really impressed, but again, I'm not really a Yo la Tengo fan either. So I guess the point is, the Upright Citizens Brigade rocks & so does Yo la Tengo since they used the picture for their cd cover. That's all.
