Back and back but never forth
" I don't know why I keep up with Yorn's music: I've known all along his only gift was his ability to make it seem like he has one in the first place. Say it like they do on the Jersey shore: "Pete YAWN. Maybe the sentimentalist in me is drawn to his honey-soaked nowhere-bound-youth nostalgia. I don't know. I do know that I don't like Singer-Songwriter Rock, i. e. any of Yorn's albums after "Musicforthemorningafter," on which he waxed rock-'n'-roller. I know also that the only things that impressed me on his fourth (!) record were the lyrics, "I Googled you in quotes/Got no results," and especially, "You kissed the best/You had enormous breasts:" the latter for reasons that are pretty obvious and the former just because it's a sign o' the times. Signs being things Yorn is too complacent to read and too mellow to care about.


Formerly Great, Now Completely Forgetable
What a waste of talent. I was a big fan of Yorn's first 2 CD's, but then he moved from Tastytown to Blandville and has put out 2 highly forgetable albums (this one included) that won't even make it as Elevator Music.


Pete Yorn on valium
I guess art (music) is a pretty subjective thing. I can't believe that some people are giving this album 5 stars.
I've really enjoyed Pete Yorn since his debut album, but I've found each album to be weaker than the last. Every song, and I mean EVERY SONG on this album is a slow, sombre tune with no identifiable hint of some of the more rock/folk-based tunes that I enjoyed in his previous works.
I totally agree with one of the previous reviewers that every song sounds like it could be featured in an episode of Dawson's Creek. I bought this album with high hopes, but unless it really grows on me, I don't see listening to it more than a few times. Here's hoping that whatever Pete Yorn does in the future, he gets back to his roots a bit more.


Fourth to back?
But why is everyone trashing Nightcrawler? My god, at least Nightcrawler had some teeth and showed some of the skills debuted in mftma. I agree, not his best work. He is definately drifting in another direction with this one. For my money, here is the list: mfthma, nightcrawler, back & fourth and day i forgot. if you want here a real emerging singer songwriter; I whole heartedly recommend Michael Mcdermott. His songs are as good as Springsteen's (just doesn't has the e-street band).


The Best Pete Yorn Yet
I admit it. Alright. I am a Pete Yorn junkie. I have followed him from his days in coffee houses in NJ and NY, and listened with anxious anticipation to each new release. It pains me a bit to say it, because it makes me feel disloyal to musicforthemorningafter, which is a work of genius in every way, but this is Pete Yorn's best work to date. For those who have not yet become familiar with Pete Yorn, this is a brilliant introduction to one of the best singer/songwriters out there. For those who loved musicforthemorningafter, and have been increasingly disappointed ever since, it's time to break out that bottle of whiskey and celebrate. Congratulations Pete. You've outdone yourself. .
