NEIL SHINES THROUGH 'EM ALL ON THIS DISC
HE IS SOLO (GUITAR/PIANO & VOCAL) AND LIKE HIS
MUSIC IT SHINES TOO BRIGHT FOR THE NAKED EYE . NEIL YOUNG IS SUCH A BADASS ,WHEN EVERYBODY ELSE
WAS FLUFFY & SINGING OVERBLOWN ROCK ANTHEMS HE
WAS COMING INTO HIS OWN BRILLIANT SONGWRITING
WORLD WITH IMMACULATE DEXTERITY .
HIS VOICE IS ONE OF A KIND , HIS LYRICS DARE
IMPROVEMENT , HIS STRIPPED DOWN SHOWS (LIKE
THE BBC CROWN JEWELS) ARE NOT TO BE MISSED .
THIS CD IS A MUST IF YOU LIKE NEIL'S MUSIC !
THE ONLY THING I MISS IS HIS HAUNTING HARMONICA
PLAYING THAT HE DOES SO WELL , BUT HEY , MAYBE
HIS LIPS WERE SORE , IT HAPPENS ! NEIL RULES
IF YOU LIKE GREAT SONGWRITERS , HE'S ON THE SHORT
LIST OF THE BEST & "LIVE AT MASSEY HALL" SHOWS
HIM WITH HIS GENIOUS IN FULL BLOOM , AMAZING !!!!.
Simply one of Neil's best
You get both great music and a lot of personality from Neil in between the songs. I have just about every Neil Young CD and "Live at Massey Hall 1971" is simply a great live album. It's a very intimate and gives you a peek at Neil's sense of humor and intelligence. Neil is at his best musically too; the best of both worlds.
I think this would make a great introduction to Neil's music for anyone that is uninitiated. Of course, "Decade" is the quinticential collection if you only want to buy one CD - but this just might be the 2nd one I would buy.
Enjoy!.
Live at Massey Hall 1971
The album was met with great reviews and Allmusic, Rolling Stone and Okayplayer gave the album 4 out of 5 or more. Live at Massey Hall 1971 being a concert at the Massey Hall from 1971 and is the second release in Youngs Archives Performance Series and was released 2007. The sound quality is crisp and one gets the feeling that one is there listening to it in person. 4/5.
Amazing Album
Neil performs solo on an acoustic guitar and piano, and for me, I enjoy seeing his amazing musical talent sparkle without any extra instruments to interrupt him. This is one of my favorite albums ever. It's a simply stunning album that I would recommend to anyone that enjoys good music.
Seriously...
Listening to the album for the first time, my wife said "can you believe he wrote all these great songs before he was 25?". if you've ever had any interest in Neil and his music, you must have this historically important recording. The recording quality is excellent, especially for 1971, Neil's performance is stellar and the songs stand the test of time. What more can you ask?.
