Nice Try, But....
I was also skeptical about this curious CD. . and the timing of it's release, here (hopefully) just before Archives volume I is a reality. We all know what a control freak NY is, and I feared that this would be "boot quality", but was pleasantly surprised that it has a decent sound to it.

Basically, it's a soundtrack for the concert film "Rust Never Sleeps", since their setlists are identical. On a positive note, though, it is not exactly the same as "Live Rust", with its inclusion of Thrasher and Welfare Mothers, not included on LR. Also, Live in San Fran avoids some of the editing snafus of LR, for example, Cortez the Killer is restored to its full length.

My advice is to stick with the DVD of "RNS", and skip this, unless you want to replace your copy of "LR' with Live in San Fran.

Save your money for Archives. . . it promises to be quite pricey!.

Way Better Than I Expected
Neil's website and various fanatic fan sites didn't have any mention of this. I was a skeptic when I saw this listed. I decided to take a chance hoping I wouldn't get ripped off. The cd label, Immortal, is somewhat suspect maybe because I never heard of it and I've been following news of Neil fairly closely ever since he made what seemed like annual Archives comments which has been over a decade or more.

The 2 cd set sounds fantastic to my ears and the packaging is so lovingly put together. It is the almost complete soundtrack of the Cow Palace 22nd of October 1978 show. My rating of 4 out of 5 stars is mainly due to the exclusion of 1 song - Already One.

This puts Live Rust to shame with it's editing (more like butchering) to fit into one cd. But a comparison between this and Live Rust may not be fair since Live Rust never claimed to be a complete show from one source. Analysis on fanatic fan sites (hyperRust;humanhighway) show that Live Rust is a compilation of what - 6 or 7 different shows? If Live Rust gets remastered and reissued on 2 cds and the missing music restored, I'll go for it but this will remain a very essential part of my collection. When I have worn this 2 cd set out from numerous listens over the years, I hope it's still available on Amazon at it's present very reasonable price.
