Nostalgic Look Back "Get Together" along with Still's "For What It's Worth" have to be the two most symbolic 60s "movement" anthems of all time. Certainly I agree with former reviews. I once heard Robert Plant do "Darkness Darkness" live and it reminded me of the potential JC Young had for writing good songs. It is a shame he couldn't have been more productive even on this collection. The rest of the CD is worse than filler. Oh yes, there is no way that this band even touched the talent of the Lovin Spoonful or that even a comparison of the two should be made! .
best of the younfbloods
I really bought this for the second song---Darkness Darkness but the first 3 songs were memorable. Ah yes takes me back to the hippy days. The rest of the music was o. k. Love that sixties guitar stuff.
Two outstanding tunes
Every rock collection MUST HAVE Darkness, Darkness. Of this CD's 10 tunes 8 are lackluster to incompetent, and two shine out brightly in the rock universe, Get Together, and the even more brilliant Darkness Darkness.
MOST UNDERRATED BAND OF THE 60S'
THE YOUNGBLOODS NEVER RECEIVED THE ACCLAIM DUE THEM IN THEIR TIME AND WILL NEVER MAKE IT INTO THE "HALL OF FAME" BUT THEY WERE BETTER AND LASTED LONGER THAN THE OTHER "JUG BAND" OF THAT ERA, THE LOVIN' SPOONFUL. IF YOU LOOK DEEPLY INTO THIS ELECTRONIC MAZE THAT AMAZON HAS CONCOCTED TO HIDE THE YOUNGBLOODS TALENTS FROM THE WORLD, YOU WILL FIND A CD TITLED "EUPHORIA" WHICH HAS 25 OF THIS GREAT BAND'S SONGS. SO GROW YOUR COFFEE JESSE COLIN YOUNG AND THANKS FOR SOME GREAT MUSIC.
OK
The only cut on this compilation to make a commercial impact was "Get Together"; however, the best cut by far is the haunting "Darkness, Darkness", which by itself is worth the price of admission. Jesse Colin Young has one of the best voices in all of 60's rock; however, he never reached his full potential, largely because of a lack of good material. The rest of the album is lightweight and forgettable. Buy it anyway, just for the good parts.
