What you would want if you knew what to expect
No point in arguing that.
Zero 7 has laid out a good selection of songs here. CD's like this always get reviews that say "Oh my God, this isn't a real Zero 7 album, it's a let down". Following suit with some of the other AnotherLateNight albums or LateNightTales (Air and Fila Brazillia being two of my fav's) this is a great release. These are also two series of compiled artists where the mixing isn't that important to me. They're created under the idea of the last songs you hear after a long night of partying and dancing and now it's time to chill out, lay back, and go out on a good note. It's like hanging out and passing out with some friends and you're taking turns switching the record. Some are feel good songs, other's have a little bounce to them, but all in all this is a good album. A lot of great songs you might not have ever heard otherwise!.

Trippie... beautifuly trippie
Plus, you should notice this is part of the ANOTHER LATE NIGHT series, it means, the album is not by Zero 7, the mix and the track listing is. I must disagree with some other reviewers who said that the combination of jazz, hip-hop and electronica was messy on this album.
The guys from Zero 7 are letting us peak into their great musical taste, and none of you is only into one genre right? So, they are into many, specially the ones exposed in this collection. Is, in deed, the combination of genres what makes this album spectacular. Starting trippy and even melancholic, but reaching higher points, like Witness by Roots Manuva, being my favourite, going through Ghost Ship in a Storm, just listent to it, the influences from this to Simple Things are just there. Truth & Rights is the only song played by Zero 7, it's just a little bit strange not to hear Sia's voice in it. . but it's a good track. Ending with People Makes the World Go Round by The Stylistics was the best choice. It closes up the album in a sublime way. Just take it as a pretty good chill out-trippie album. Perfect for sex!!.

Mixed mixes
Compiled here are several excellent trip-hop tunes, and several similarly good hip-hop tunes. Zero 7 has mixed results in their "favorites" compulation, a part of the "Another Late Night" series. Unfortunately, the two are mashed together in a none-too-pleasant manner.

It starts off on a suitably mellow note with Yesterday's New Quintet, and all seems to be going well for a short time. Then the Quasimoto "Real Eyes" comes in. Don't get me wrong -- it's a wonderful song, and an excellent musical choice. But placed directly after the laid-back trippiness of Quintet's "Sunrays," it comes across as surreally harsh.

After that comes a stretch of more gritty hip-hop, followed by some tripped-out jazz and mellow Joy Zippers, and. . . more hip-hop, sprinkled with electronica here and there. It ends on a softer note with a trippy cover by the Stylistics, and a song by Zero 7 themselves.

Unlike bands like Snow Patrol and the Flaming Lips, don't expect Zero 7's mix CD to be full of music that shaped their sound. Because there's very little resemblance between, say, Quasimoto and Zero 7's sounds. Both are enjoyable, but there's literally no resemblance at all.

But the problem with Zero 7's "Another Late Night" is not so much the songs selected, but the way they are presented. It seems like Zero 7 simply chose a bunch of songs they liked, and tossed them onto a CD willy-nilly. As a result, they lurch from one musical style to another, and none of the songs flatter one another.

Had the assorted songs been rearranged, Zero 7's entry in the "Another Late Night" series could have been excellent listening. As it is, it's an uncomfortable tangle of different musical styles.

Great CD!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, listen up. . . If you are a fan of the DJ Kicks series. . . GET THIS CD!!!! This CD has a little more variety than some of my favorite DJ Kicks CDs. . . . ie. . Thievery Corporation, Kid Loco, and Kruder & Dorfmeister. This CD has far more of an old school flavor than those. . . think. . . AIM. . . . if you like AIM, you will LOVE this CD. I delayed purchasing this one due to bad reviews, mistake!!! I also listened to the samples provided, which I dont feel are quite good enough to give you a feel for this disc. In summary this cd is a perfect blend of acid jazz,hip-hop,old school R&B, and trip-hop. A must for the collection!!!!!!!.

Jeez, how dim are you lot?
Seemingly a lot of folks here instantly dismissed it on that basis. Yes, it's a compilation album of tracks that inspired the compiler, just like all the other 'Another Late Night' CDs. Besides which, the tracks included are very Zero-7ish in vibe:
Cinematic Orchestra's string-drenched Channel 1 Suite, a dub workout of Roots Manuva's Witness, Madlib's helium-voiced alias Quasimoto and winds down with Herbert's mighty remix of Serge Gainsbourg.
Check it out, unless you strictly sit on the Groove Armada/Fatboy Slim fence there'll be plenty of new albums worth investigating on the strength of it.
