The ”concept album kings” Queensryche is back again with a new album titled American Soldier and I must say that I am impressed. Queensryche was formed in the early 80s and have always been close to the top of metal. This is their 10th studio album since the self titled debut in 1983. With the strong “Operation: Mindcrime” in their catalogue they have to prove that they still can make excellent albums. Operation: Mindcrime is one of the top 10 best metal albums of all time.

Singer Geoff Tate has spent the last years interviewing veterans from all conflicts America has been involved in from World War II to the Iraq War. These interviews are mixed with the music on the 12 tracks making it more than just regular songs. You will find Queensryche guitar tabs and bass tabs here.
if you enjoyed the other concept albums “Operation Mindcrime” and “Operation Mindcrime II”, I’m sure this one will be a hit with you too. The songs are strong and the melody and tempo vary just enough to keep your attention. The interviews also give the whole album a mystic and dark feeling. Good guitar and vocal oriented progressive metal. The tunes get you on the first listen and it starts to grow. The only negative about the album and the band is that they sound a little too much like Iron Maiden.
The disc is without Mike Stone who left the band in February 2009 to focus on his side-project Speed-X. Second guitarist Michael Wilton recorded all the guitar parts on American Soldier and Parker Lundgren, who played for Tate during his solo tour, will be replacing Stone for future tours and albums.
