The classic song by Chuck Berry. I am not playing it exactly like Chuck did it - this is my own version. Also, the original is in Bb, but I play it in A just for simplicity. View video

Subject: Cake Tablature(The Distance)

The tabber before me almost had it all right, but there were a few minor
problems with it, so I decided to send them to you. Mine is easier to read
too, because I do not put in the rythym parts. You guys are smart enough to
do it yourselves out there.

First Part: throughout verses repeating over and over
e--------------------------------------------------
b--0----1-/-3-\-1-0---------0-h-1-p-0-------
g--0----2-/-4-\-2-0---2----0-h--2-p-0--2----
d-------------------------4--------------------4---

Trumpet part(not played by guitar, but it sounds cool!):

e-7-6-5-3-2-0-0-0-
g-8-7-6-5-3-2-1-0-

Chorus:

a--------------------012--------------5/7-75
e-00-00-00-03b---------00-00-0---------7\
Tab:"The Distance" by Cake
Album: Fashion Nugget

This is a really good song of an incredible album. I'm calling this one the biggest surprise album of 1997. I'm pretty sure this tab is accurate, because I saw them play it live here(Montreal) in December.

Verse Riff(Clean tone)

e:I--------------------------------I
B:I---0---1/3\1-0------0h1p0---0---I
G:I---0---2/4\2-0-2----0h2p0-2-0---I
D:I---------------4----------4-----I
A:I--------------------------------I
E:I--------------------------------I

Do that as many times as needed, then skip the part with the trumpet until this:

Chorus(Distorted)

e:I----------------------------I---------------------------I
B:I----------------------------I---------------------------I
G:I----------------------------I---------------------------I
D:I----------------------------I---------------------------I
A:I----------------------0-1-2-I------------------5/7-7-5--I
E:I-0-0--0-0--0-0--0-3b4-------I-0-0--0-0--0-0--0---------7I

There's also this part, which is thrown in here and there:

Post-Chorus(Distorted)

e:I------------------------I
B:I------------------------I
G:I------------------------I
D:I---------2--------------I
A:I-----------------0-1-2--I
E:I---0-3-0---3b4-4--------I
       ! !
I'm not sure if this is done with a hammer-on or not.

That's all the guitar in the song. I just want to mention that according to an interview with their guitarist, Cake gets their unique sound by buying the cheapest, beat-up equipment they can find. Cool, eh!
