Subject: e/eno_brian/by_this_river.crd Song: By This River Artist: Brian Eno Album: Before and After Science Transcribed By: Nik Fournier All words and music by Brian Eno These are the chords to this strikingly sparse, beautiful song from one of Eno's early solo albums. The original version is played on piano and keyboards, so this is a fairly close adaptation I came up with for guitar. It's a nice arrangement if you've got someone else to play the lead behind the chords. Intro: Lead 1 (repeat over Verse chords-- Bb, Gm, Eb, Gm) G|-----15--14------------------------------------7---8---10--| D|--------------15--12--15------------12-------8--10--12--| A|-----------------------------13--15-------------------------| Verse One: Bb Here... Bb Stuck by... Gm You and I.. Gm Underneath... Eb Down, down, down ... Gm Ever falling down... Verse Two: Bb Through... Bb As if... Gm Waiting here,... Gm Always failing Eb Came, came, came... Gm I wonder why we came... Lead 2: E|-----------------18--------------------------------------------| B|--18--16--15--------17--18--20--18--17--18--22--------| (you're on your own for the rest...) Verse Three: Bb You talk... Bb... as if from... Gm And I reply... Gm With impressions... Eb Time, time, time... Gm From another time... (Hum the melody a bit here at the end, and if nobody hits you with a chair, you've played it well enough.) ________________________________________________________________________________
