All who plaguerize me shall burn! Finally! Green Day returns to their punk political satire glory! From the new album "American Idiot" [which is being released September 21] Their first single is out, and it's hil-fucking-larious! God I hate America! Note: as with all Green Day songs the tuning is in Eb [low to high: Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-eb] Intro: A D G D A G [play five times] Verse: same as intro with a 'My Generation' [the Who, 1969] style format [singing one line of the verse[s] at a time, then playing the riff, then doing the next line, then playign the riff, etc. etc. etc.....] Chorus: [all barre chords [except final A5, as noted], the number in [] after the chord shows at which fret to play the chords] D [5th] A [5th] E [7th] A5 [power chord] The whole songs revolves around the basic box shape at the 5th fret, it is the basis of the riffs Lyrics: Don't wanna be an American idiot [play intro riff once, then pause] Don't want 'one nation under the new media' [play intro riff once, then pause] And can you hear the sound of hysteria? [play intro riff once, then pause] The subliminal mind-fuck of America [play intro riff once, then pause] Chorus: D Welcome to a new kind of tension; A All across the Arian nation-oh; E A5 Everything on a man is a UPC-okay [unsure of this line] D Television dreams of tomorrow; A We're not the ones who're meant to follow-oh; E [Pause] I tell you that's enough to fuck you [unsure of this line] [Play intro twice] Verse II: Well maybe I'm the faggot, America I'm not a part of a Red-Neck agenda Now everybody do the propaganda And sing along to the age of paranoia Welcome to a new kind of tension, all across the Arian nation-oh, Everything on a man is a UPC okay [unsure of this line] Television dreams of tomorrow, we're not the ones who're meant to follow-oh I tell you that's enough so fuck you [unsure of this line] Intro riff 4 times [Solo] [I improv it, it is in the B Major Scale, and i toss in classic Billie Joe licks from their first albums, and from songs like "Only of You", "Dry Ice", and "My Generation"... feel free to rock the fuck out, its punk!] Intro riff 3 times, then it continues into the 3rd verse playing the riff all throughout Don't wanna be an American idiot Don't want 'one nation under new media' Information age of hysteria [pause] It's going out to Idiot America Outro: same as intro riff, played however many times you feel like __________________________________________________
