"Kayleigh" from the album _The_Thieving_Magpie_ Transcribed by Shane P. Faulkner (faulkner@acsu.buffalo.edu) A very tough song to play, unless you're Stephen Rothery. I've watched him play this song up-close several times, and it still amazes me. If you've never seen him up-close, I'll describe it. He holds the pick normally between his thumb and fore finger. His middle, ring, and pinky fingers of his right hand have long nails (almost 1/3 inch maybe) which he uses to finger pick the high strings WHILE picking with the pick. I have tried this, but can't do it, so I just use my fingers and thumb (no pick) for the verses. Without the long fingernails and pick, the sound isn't as crystal clear, but what can you do? Set delay time to about 425 milliseconds, about 3 repeats, and alot of delay in the mix (almost 100%). Steve uses EMG single coil active pickups, Roland Jazz Chorus 120 amps for the clean parts, TC Electronics delay units, Alesis Quadraverb, MIDI octopus, and bunch of other stuff (no kidding).
