Song: Born to Wander (written by Tom Baird)
Artist: Rare Earth
Album: 20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Rare
Earth
Tabbed by: Aaron Schepler (aschepler@cableaz.com)

"Born to Wander" is a great example of bassist John Persh's solid, funky
style. The song first appeared on the band's third album "Ecology," which,
unfortunately, has long been out of print on CD. So pick up "The Best of
Rare Earth" instead, which also features the long versions of "Get Ready"
and "(I Know) I'm Losing You," as well as "Hey, Big Brother." All of these
songs showcase Persh's fine bass work.

Anyway, there are only three different parts to learn for this song. The
first is the intro and main bass line. The bass comes in at approximately
0:24. The notes after the line make up the main bass part, which is played
over the verse and chorus.

G|------------------|---------------------------------------|
D|*-----------------|---------------------------------------|
A|*--3--5--3--------|-----------------3--5--3--5---5-3------|
E|------------5--0--|--3--5--3--5--5-------------------5-0--|

The second part is played during the pre-chorus, which goes "'Cause the wind
was my mother/The highway is my brother...." This line appears twice, at
0:38 and 1:28. It's looks strange because it's chromatic, but it sounds
very cool.

G|------------------------|-----------------------------|
D|*-----------------------|-----------------------------|
A|*--0--0--1--2--3--x--3--|--3--4--5--5--6--7--8--x--8--|
E|------------------------|-----------------------------|

The last part is the bridge leading into the flute solo and the part that's
played underneath the solo (1:47-2:18). After this, it's back into the main
bass line shown above.

G|------------------|--------------------|-----------------------|
D|*-----------------|-----------------5--|-----------------------|
A|*-----------------|--------5--5--8-----|-----------------------|
E|---3--5--0--3--5--|--5--8--------------|--3--5--3--5--0--3--5--|
