"If I Could Fly" by Joe Satriani

Track 6 off of "Is There Love In Space?"

Barrie

The message below came from Joe Satriani himself off of
www.satriani.com!! These are the chords thus far until Cherry Lane makes
it public.

""If I Could Fly" does indeed start off with a first position G maj 7 to
an F# min 7 add 11, twice, then remodulates to a B major with added
4th(first string).The chorus is: E min 7, A maj, D maj 9, B min. Same
thing for the first solo over verse section, except I hold off on the B
maj until the end. The last verse is: G sus2, A maj, D/F# repeated, and
then on to the tag solo with the same chords. Cherry Lane will carry the
book out soon...Thanks to all the fans who came out to the clinics, you
guys are the best there is!...Joe"

What? chords? in a Joe Satriani song?

yeah guys & girls... I see tabs all the time for the leads for Joe's
tunes but no one rarely figures out the chording arrangements for his
songs... trust me, Joe is very versed in the chording department, and
alot of the time, that's where the real complex stuff starts taking over,
Joe is a Genious for Rhythmic patterns, simplistic rarely but sometimes,
depending on the song, and what mood he's trying to set forth... He just
loves those complex spacey sounding chords that you can only learn and
know by deep experimentation.

I decided to write it out so it was easy to see instead of going through
all the message. that way you could read it while playing it... listen to
the CD "Is There Love In Space?" track number 6 to get the feel for it
and the changes.

(Intro & Verse:) (Gmaj 7th), (F#min 7th add 11), 2X, (B Major added 4th)
1st string

(Chorus:) (Emin 7th), (Amaj), (Dmaj 9), (Bmin)

(Same thing for 1st solo over verse section, but hold off on Bmaj until
end)

(Last Verse:) Gsus2, Amaj, D/F# repeated (and then on the tag solo with
the same chords)

As for the lead section, try noodling around until you get it right...
but never forget the chords... ;)
