Hand On Heart (Fire Garden album)
Music by Steve Vai
Transcribed by Jason Richards(16 yrs of age), Reading, England, April '97
(HFPhoenix@aol.com)

This is the main theme of Hand On Heart which Steve variates several times in the piece. I worked it out along the B string but feel free to use the notes on other strings to be more comfortable. He worked hard on the tone of the guitar rather than on speed and dexterity. To try to recreate his tone try some soft distortion with delay and reverb.

The bends steve does are to accurate notes. So, to practise getting to the right pitch each time it is best to slide the notes to start with, rather that bend them. I've included as much detail as possible to make it more accurate.

Notation:
<=bend up
>=bend down
~=vibrato
h=hammer-on
p=pull off
/=slide up
*=pinched harmonic

    B       Hold Note        A          E    Hold note   F#m
e|---------------------------------|-------------------------------|
b|----12<14----14>12--11--11h12~~~~|----11<12----12~~p9--7h9h11~~~~|
g|---------------------------------|-------------------------------|
d|11-------------------------------|--9----------------------------|
a|---------------------------------|-------------------------------|
e|---------------------------------|-------------------------------|

  G#m                  A                  E                     F#m
e|-------------------------------------|---------------------------|
b|/7-7-7~--9-(9)/11----5~~--4h5h4------|0--(7)/9~~-9/11\9~--7\4/7~~|
g|--------------------------------6~~~-|---------------------------|
d|-------------------------------------|---------------------------|
a|-------------------------------------|---------------------------|
e|-------------------------------------|---------------------------|

This is played three times with variations. The second time introduces the chords and the third time, percussion. I'm not sure of the accompanying chords but i've put what i think they are in to give you the impression.

This is roughly the next part of the piece:

e|---------------------------------|------------16------------------|
b|14h16h17~-17-16-14-16~-12-12h14~~|14h16h17~-17---17-16~-12-12h14~~|
g|---------------------------------|--------------------------------|
d|---------------------------------|--------------------------------|
a|---------------------------------|--------------------------------|
e|---------------------------------|--------------------------------|

e|--------------------------------|---------------------------------|
b|--2-2--7-7--9-9--11-11~---------|--2-2--7-7--9-(9)h11h12-11-9-7---|
g|--------------------------------|---------------------------------|
d|--------------------------------|---------------------------------|
a|--------------------------------|---------------------------------|
e|--------------------------------|---------------------------------|
                                                 (pick scrape)
e|---------------------------------------------------|
b|--2-2--7-7--9-9--11-11--(11)\7--14-16-17*~~~~--x\--|
g|---------------------------------------------------|
d|---------------------------------------------------|
a|---------------------------------------------------|
e|---------------------------------------------------|

This is a build up to the 'solo' part which is much more complicated. I haven't figured this part out yet but if you want to try, to start you off, the first two notes are:

e|--------|
b|--12-11-|
g|--------|
d|--------|
a|--------|
e|--------|

If anyone can make any further ammendments or knows and more, please send them in. This is the first tab i've written and it sure was fun, hope you enjoy it.
