Subject: TAB:"Tonight" by Violent Femmes My arrangement of the guitar portion of "Tonight" can be played by anyone who knows how to move a barre chord up and down the neck. It might be incorrect but it doesn't sound like it is. If you disagree, or if you have other questions, comments or additions, write me at meunier.1@osu.edu "Tonight"(Gordon Gano) Performed by Violent Femmes on "ROCK!!!"(1995) Transcribed by Bryson Meunier main riff- G5 C5 D5 E---------------------------------------------------| B---------------------------------------------------| G----------------------x-5--5--5\\7--7--7-----------| D----5--5--5--5--5---5-x-5--5--5\\7--7--7-----------| A----5--5--5--5--5---5-x-3--3--3\\5--5--5-----------| E----3--3--3--3--3---3------------------------------| Play this riff as freely as possible. Just strum it to the rhythm of the song and it should sound alright. The timing can be best determined by listening to the music but a good guideline to follow is to start the riff when Gordon says "Tonight..." and start it again when he says "get" as in "get high," "get laid,"etc. It's really not that hard to understand if you're listening to the music. (bass intro) Tonight. (3x) G5 C5 D5 G5 C5 D5 To- night I want ...(2x) G5 C5 Tonight I want to get .... A5 D5 I don't care if I ..... Tonight, I want to....(2x) A5 D5 (fill 1) But it would be much .... Tonight cause I want to get laid(2x) Tonight I want to get laid, ..... For the next two verses, it sounds like everything is moved up one fret, making a G#5-C#5-D#5 progression: substituted chords- G#5 C#5 D#5 E---------------------| B---------------------| G----------6------8---| D---6------6------8---| A---6------4------6---| E---4-----------------| G#5 C#5 D#5 G#5 C#5 D#5 To-night cause I want ....(2x) G#5 C#5 Tonight I want to get .... D#5 Do me slow or do ... Tonight cause I ... A#5(?) D#5 But it would be much better if .... (continue same pattern as in third verse) Tonight I want to ...(2x) Tonight I want to .... I don't ...(fill 2) fill2- E-----------------| B------9---9------| G------9---9------| D------9---9------| A-----------------| E-----------------| Tonight!(3x(same verse riff)) The last chord just sounds like an A. Correct me if I'm wrong. A E-------| B--2----| G--2----| D--2----| A-------| E-------| That's it. Have fun with the post!
