Title: In The Cold, Cold Night
Band: The White Stripes
Album: Elephant (2003)
tabbed by scef (email: funnell_teen_spirit@yahoo.com)
yes i really am this bored, but hey, this is another
great song and undoubtedly the easiest to play on the
album...
NB this song is in 12/8 time (i think) and is played
fingerstyle throughout
most of the song has a slight droning bass sound
underneath the riffs, which is not bass but a guitar
through an octave pedal. the 'bass' note is indicated
by letters above the tab
main riff
D F
e---|-------------------------|
B---|-------------------------|
G-5/|/7---------7/10-------10/|
D---|-------------------------|
A-3/|/5---x-x---5/8---x-x---8/|
E---|-----x-x---------x-x-----|
G A
e----------------------|
B----------------------|
G/12-------12/14-------|
D----------------------|
A/10--x-x--10/12--x-x--|
E-----x-x---------x-x--|
the best way to get the muted strings is to place your
middle finger over the bottom 2 strings while keeping
the octave shape with your 1st and 3rd/4th fingers
every so often play this (listen to song for when to
change)
A G
e----|-------------------------|--------------------|
B----|-------------------------|--------------------|
G----|-------------------------|--------------------|
D----|-------------------------|--------------------|
A-10/|/12-------------------12\|\10-----------------|
E----|-------------------------|--------------------|
at some point this is played:
this bit 4 times
D
e---|----------------------|
B---|----------------------|
G-5/|/7--------------------|
D---|----------------------|
A-3/|/5--------------------|
E---|----------------------|
then this bit 2 times
G
e----|----------------------|
B----|----------------------|
G-10/|/12-------------------|
D----|----------------------|
A--8/|/10-------------------|
E----|----------------------|
then this bit 2 times
D
e---|----------------------|
B---|----------------------|
G-5/|/7--------------------|
D---|----------------------|
A-3/|/5--------------------|
E---|----------------------|
then this bit
A G
e----|-------------------------|--------------------|
B----|-------------------------|--------------------|
G----|-------------------------|--------------------|
D----|-------------------------|--------------------|
A-10/|/12-------------------12\|\10-----------------|
E-10/|/12-------------------12\|\10-----------------|
then it's just a case of repeating stuff above until
about 2mins23secs through the song, when there's this
bit:
D C A
e-------------------------|-------5-----------------|
B-------------------------|-------------------------|
G-7-----7---7-5---5-------|-------------------------|
D-7-----7---7-5---5-----7-|-------------------------|
A-5-----5---5-3---3-----7-|-------------------------|
E-----------------------5-|-------------------5-----|
D C A
e-------------------------|-------------------------|
B-------------------------|-------5-----------------|
G-7-----7---7-5---5-------|-------6-----------------|
D-7-----7---7-5---5-----7-|-------7-----------------|
A-5-----5---5-3---3-----7-|-----------------7-7-----|
E-----------------------5-|-----------------5-5-----|
D C A
e-------------------------|-------5-----------------|
B-------------------------|-------5-----------------|
G-7-----7---7-5---5-------|-------------------------|
D-7-----7---7-5---5-----7-|-------------------------|
A-5-----5---5-3---3-----7-|-------------------7-----|
E-----------------------5-|-------------------5-----|
A G
e-------------------------|---------------------|
B-------------------------|---------------------|
G-------------------------|---------------------|
D-------------------------|---------------------|
A-7-----------------7-----|-5-------------------|
E-5-----------------5-----|-3-------------------|
then back to main riff
that's enough tabbing for today, will prob put more
elephant stuff here if and when i work it out...
