Title: The Union Forever
Band: The White Stripes
Album: White Blood Cells (2001)

tabbed by scef (email: funnell_teen_spirit@yahoo.com)

nearly the whole album done!

intro

play this twice
e---------0-------|-------------|
B-----------------|-------------|
G-------0*--0*----|-----3*--3*--|
D-----2*------2*--|---3*--3*--3*|
A---2*----------2*|-1-----------|
E-0---------------|-------------|

the main thing to remember when playing the main riffs
is to put emphasis on the bass notes. the notes that
have a * are palm muted, ie, when you pick these notes
lightly place your strumming hand over the strings
near the bridge at the same time.

then when the drums arrive it's the verse riff, which
is preety much the same as the intro riff, except for
a slight variation
e---------0-------|-------------|
B-----------0-----|-------------|
G-------0*----0*--|-----3*--3*--|
D-----2*--------2*|---3*--3*--3*|
A---2*------------|-1-----------|
E-0---------------|-------------|

after the line "there is no true love" there's this
(let's call it riff C for reference later)
e-------------------------------|
B-------------------------------|
G-4-4--4-4------------3-3--3-3--|
D-4-4--4-4--5-5--5-5--3-3--3-3--|
A-2-2--2-2--5-5--5-5--1-1--1-1--|
E-----------3-3--3-3------------|

then straight back to the verse riff how ever times,
then the above riff, then the verse riff a few more
times. at about 1min30 into the song ("cos it can't be
love...") there's another variation on the verse riff
(call it riff D for future reference)
e---------|---------|
B---------|---------| (concentrate on hitting these
G-0--0--0-|-3--3--3-| chords on the drumbeats)
D-2--2--2-|-3--3--3-|
A-2--2--2-|-1--1--1-|
E-0--0--0-|---------|

play riff D however many times, then riff C, then
e---|
B---|
G---|
D-2-|
A-2-|
E-0-|

then there's no guitar for a while ("there is a
man...") until...

("I'll bet you five...")
e-----------------------|
B-----------------------|
G--------------3--------|
D--------------3--------|
A--------------1--------|
E-----------------------|

then it's back to the verse, where there's another
variation on the verse riff (play this once)
e-------------|-------------|
B-------------|-------------|
G-------0*----|-----3*--3*--|
D-----2*----2*|---3*--3*--3*|
A---2*----2*--|-1-----------|
E-0-----------|-------------|

then another variation (play this once)
e-----------|-------------|
B-----------|-------------|
G-----0-----|-----3*--3*--|
D-------2*--|---3*--3*--3*|
A---2*----2*|-1-----------|
E-0---------|-------------|

then, yup, another variation. carry on playing this
one throughout the bit where jack sings "you said the
union forever..."
e-------------|-------------|
B-------------|-------------|
G-------------|-----3*--3*--|
D-----2*--2*--|---3*--3*--3*|
A---2*--2*--2*|-1-----------|
E-0-----------|-------------|

then play riff D however many times, then riff C, then
end on
e-0-|
B-0-|
G-0-|
D-2-|
A-2-|
E-0-|

the instant the above is played, mute the strings with
your strumming hand to stop the chord quickly for that
abrupt ending. and that's it, only a couple of songs
left on the album to do methinks! (little room doesn't
count)
